Abstract (EN)
At once time, Anatolia and Balkans were the lands which brought together two nations, two cultures, two religious in the land of Ottoman Empire. The people of this land lived together for many years. They shared their traditions and habits so created a new culture while resisting life?s difficulties. This common culture brought away rich clothing traditions until today.Historically, it was observed that the Balkan Turks were coming from in Central Asia like the Turks. The shalwar, caftan, robe, bolero and vest have become indispensable clothing elements for Balkans and Turks in every period of history.Geographically, Balkans and Anatolian showed similar climate properties, therefore, similar raw materials were used. It is possible to say, wool, linen, silk and cotton were most commonly used materials in traditional clothing in Balkans and Anatolian.During this study, traditional garments which belonged to the various civilizations that lived in Balkans were examined.These garments were analyzed by considering the properties such as fabric, form, pattern, embroidery, ornamentation, color, way of dressing and name and alternative designs were developed.Silk and linen fabrics were used for the shirt and vest models in the collection. Traditional decorations were updated and lace, embroideries techniques were applied.As a result of this study, it was observed common living brought that Anatolian and Balkan garments had general similarities. The Balkan shirts and vests forms in Ethnographia Museum of Aegean University were selected and on the basis of their forms alternative shirts and vests were designed. For these designs traditional decorative techniques were used to carry daily life.
