Examining the situation in the parental meetings of the supportive home environment to learn a dimension of parental involvement in the education process (Case study)

In this study, ıt is aimed to reseaarched to determine what classroom teachers 'suggest to parents' for a learning supportive home environment at the parents' meetings and the contribution of these meetings to the learning supportive home environment; fort his aim, those questions are looked for an answer. This research is done from qualitative research with situation determinations. Those questions are asked such as how and which topics teachers guide about supportive home environment according to the parents, how and which topics teachers guide about suppor tive home environment and which decisions are in the reports of parent's meeting. In the two primary schools in Gaziantep, Şehitkamil district 55 people ( 25 of them are teachers and 30 parentds, two of them hawe students with individualized education programs) were interviewed individually and face-to-face. Data which is obtained from teachers, parents and documents is analyzed by using descriptive analysis techniqe.The reports of parents' meetings, holded in 1.and 2.terms of 2016/2017 Academic year were examined. Teachers were asked quetions in Appendix-1 and the parent; were asked questions in Appendix-2. In this study; 25 teachers, 10 of them male and 15 female were interviewed. 30 parents, 27 of them female and 3 male were interviewed. According to 8 themes which are obtained by researching for institutional frame work code are created. Code was used for teachers and parents. We codified as T1 (Teacher 1), T2, T3.. for teachers and P1 ( Parent 1), P2, P3… for parents. In this study, it was tried to determine the situation by asking some questions to the teachers and parents. For the teachers, the questions such as gender, the duration of the profession, the number of parents' meetings, the grade of the class and the number of the parents who attended to the meetings were asked. In the same way the parents were asked the guestions such as, gender education status, the grade of the child, the frequency of attendance to the meetings, whet her she thinks them as a concerned parent, are they in formed to create a productive study environment at home for the child. It hais founded that less quantity of teacher makes suggestions about home environment. However, it is seen that parents have not informed efficiently by teacher and also he/she was interested in particular topic . Main reasons of this situation are anxiety of teachers not being taking in to account. Low education level of parents' and shortcoming financial situation. Nevertheless, it is clear that some teachers make proposal. It isn't forgetten that acedemic success can in crease by association with parents and scholl.
