The relationship between the leadership styles and personality traits of educational managers

In this study, the relationships between leadership styles and personality traits of school leaders were investigated.The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire developed by R.B.Cattell to investigate the primary factors of personality and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire were applied to collect data.Sample of research, 304 principles were selected from 122 schools in Istanbul.According to research results:1. School leaders mostly displayed (A+) `Warmth?, (B+) `Reasoning?, (C+) `Emotional Stability?, (E+) `Dominance?, (F+) `Liveliness?, (G+) `Rule-consciousness?, (H+) `Social Boldness?, (I+) `Sensitivity?, (N+) `Privateness?, (Q1+) `Openness to Change? and (Q3+) `Perfectionism? personality traits.2. `Transactional?, `Transformational? and `Laissez faire? leadership styles of the school leaders were significantly correlated with their personality traits.3. The primary school leaders? leadership styles and personality traits were significantly different from the high school leaders?.4. The leadership styles and personality traits of school leaders were significantly different according to their gender.Key words: Leadership style, personality, managerial behaviour
