Having a paralleldevelopment to manking hunting then was a source of living, and became anentertainment way kings, manarches and nobles spent their spare times in the MiddleAges. Today hunting is regarded as o kind of sport.However Turkey is on the migration ways of many hunting birds in respect toits geographical position, it is a country where the kinds and numbers of huntinganimals are too much owing to the different climate types in different regions and beingsurrounded by sea from three sides, surrounded by water from three sides, the ElazığProvince is a small model of Turkey, having high mountains over 2000 mts., the lakeand productive soil has also many hunting animals. Being started going hunting at onearly age with their fathers, considering it as a sovvenir from ancestors hunters in Elazığhunt mostly partridge, quail, rabbit, duck and fish.The most significant characteristic of terms is they have a special meaningamong the members of that branch and so they are used as means of a fastunderstanding hunters in Elazığ also use the hunting terms which the majority of thesociety doesn?t know both during hunting and in chatting with each other. This study isconducted to collect these terms which are having special meanings and used by thehunters as a means of fast understanding each other examine them in terms of structureand origin and constitute a Dictionary of Terms of Hunting in Elazığ Area.The terms of hunting collected among the hunters in Elazığ and in its districts.Being in forms as simple, Derived and Compound the origin of the most of these wordsare based on Turkish, moreover, some terms have been determined originated mostly inArabic and Persian and in different foreing languages. Besides terms originated inTurkish and in a foreign language is used together as word phrases.Some part of the terms hunting determined consist of terms which are it usedin common language but only hunters know their meanings, and the other part consist ofwords which are used in comman language but given a second meaning. Determiningnearly six hundreds terms of hunting in Elazığ and in its districts shows hunting has afundamental structure in Elazığ area.Key Words: Hunt, hunting, partridge, partridge hunting, Elazığ area, terms,dictionary of terms of hunting.
