ABSTRACTMsc THESISHAZARDS OF ELECTROMAGNETİC POLLUTİONDemet ELHASOĞLUDEPARTMENT OF PHYSICSINSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCESUNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVASupervisor: Prof. Dr. Kerim KIYMAÇYear, 2006, Page:122Jury: Prof. Dr. Kerim KIYMAÇJury: Prof. Dr. Bekir ÖZÇELİKJury: Prof. Dr. Osman SERİNDAĞCurrently, there are many studies to understand how the electromagneticfields effect cells and tissues of biological systems. There are a lot of experimentaland epidemiological studies about possible physiologic and biologic effects of 50-60Hz power frequency fields on the human, animal and plants that are exposed to thosefields, for a long time.In our study, we developed a questionary which include 11 questions, toexplore the health problems of the people who are exposed to electromagnetic fieldsfor along time. The questionary have been applied to 93 families who live close (upto 30 meters) to or far from the high voltage power lines. In every family, there havebeen more than one person hence, our work includes 265 questioned people. Theanswers have been analysed by using SPSS program for age and living timevariables. After that, the results have been statistically evaluated about headache, articulation ache, neurological problems, hearth problems, upper respiratoryinfections, blood pressures, sleep problems, with special attention on the age andduration of living in a specific house. The results of the analysis showed us that, some of the health problems could be occured because of the EMR radiated by highpower lines.Key Words: Electromagnetic fields, human health, questionnaire techniqueII
