Abstract (EN)
As Jorge Frascara defines design, he considers it an action or a practice. According to him, design or designing requires inventing, translating the invisible into the visible and communicating. Therefore, design or designing involves the use of decision-making mechanisms, the implementation of knowledge and the generation of new knowledge (ÇizgiDışı 6, 2010: 81-82). This statement of Frascara also forms the basis of many design concepts that are reinterpreted in today's designing process. The fact that these new approaches to design, seeking the ways to express the concerns on why we design instead of focusing on what and how we desing, follow an interdisciplinary path leads to the emergence of a tendency towards critical and self-reflective design practices. This thesis, which focuses on the concepts of critical design and speculative design among the above-mentioned new design approaches, discusses the graphic design tradition in critical and speculative design approaches as well as the relationship they established with the posters as an important part of this tradition. At the same time, this thesis provides a basis for critical graphic design and speculative graphic design concepts developed in this contex. This project, which is a Proficiency in Arts thesis, lays out the conditions under which a speculative graphic design project turns into a means of inquiry, and how critical stance can be visualized through narratives and scenarios. The reliability of speculative scenarios created through design, is an important consideration. James Auger argues the concept of perceptual bridge by which the designs can establish a secure connection with the audience. In Wonderland, which is a speculative graphic design project set forth in this thesis, the speculative narrative is attempted to be discovered through the use of the principles of perceptual bridges specified by Auger.
