A study on the theme of city and poverty in the stories of Emir Kalkan

After 1950s, Emir Kalkan is one of the authors who writes out reflection of Turkey's urbanization process to society and person. Urbanization which migrations rural to urban with impact of industrialisation accelerate has positive sides, on the other hand increasing of some facts such as poverty, crime to effect of community peace is undeniable. Emir Kalkan has treated multidimensionality in his stories testifying of urban transform since his childhood and humans how to affect this transformation and to be affected. Emir Kalkan keeps alive community's memory as reflecting to his works Turkey's transformation processes. Emir Kalkan who was grown with rich folk culture, clinging to national and moral emotions, relating to the problems of society closely, finding solutions has a lot of stories. In his tories, analyzing of urban and poverty themes have an important position to interpret portrait of Turkey. Emir Kalkan showed that urban doesn't occur only buildings also it is fed with souls which live there and take shape according to this as giving examples especially about Kayseri's people, culture, social and potical life, national and moral emotions, economic situation. In this thesis, Emir Kalkan's stories was analyzed by taking into consideration the relation between sociology and literature as part of urban and poverty themes.
