The effect of smart manufacturing upon business performance with industry 4.0: an implementation at Vestel refrigerator factory

Industry 4.0, which was pronounced for the first time in 2011 or with fourth industrial revolution is once again experiencing a radical change. From the historical point of view, in three Industrial Revolution: Machines are included to the production, Production on a band operated by electrical energy has been actualized in series, and integration of the computer with production systems has been ensured. Today, under the title of industry 4.0, production systems are being used with the help of various technologies. Smart manufacturing has identified a production with using Industry 4.0 technologies. Similarly, factories equipped with these latest technologies are also referred to these smart factories. Even if these concepts have different names, they are the same things. Under the smart manufacturing title, Modernized production systems can be produced faster and cheaper. At the same time, these systems give flexibility to the production line, make easier to access new markets and customers, and give superiority in competition. This system, which has many more benefits, also affects operational performance. In the study, under the title of smart manufacturing, modernized production system's effect on operating performance was researched. After is being given information about the industrial revolution, smart manufacturing concept was transferred, and a literature review related to the topic was scanned. In the third part of the study, an implementation was actualized in Vestel Refrigerator Factory. In the implementation stage, systems and new technologies used in the factory were examined. Then, with the help of performance indicators, smart manufacturing's effect on business performance was revealed.
