Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between perceived psychological/emotional abuse and emotion regulation in adolescents. The study group consisted of 299 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 who volunteered for the study and applied to Adana Ekrem Tok Psychiatry Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic for any reason between 02.07.2021 and 11.08.2021. The data were acquired by using the "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Psychological Abuse Questionnaire", and "The Regulation of Emotions Questionnaire for Adolescents". IBM SPSS 25.0 Windows package program was used in the analysis of the data. According to the findings obtained from the research; No difference was found between the genders in terms of total psychological abuse score. Perceived psychological abuse was found to be higher in cases reporting physical violence in the family environment and physical violence between parents in the 16-18 age group and in adolescents who smoke (p<.05). Internal dysfunctional emotion regulation methods: in cases of the female gender, who were studying at high school, and who reported that they had a physical illness; On the other hand, it was found that external dysfunctional emotion regulation methods were used more frequently in cases who smoked, used alcohol, did not have an elementary family structure, and had a father's education level below high school (p<.05). It was found that both internal and external dysfunctional emotion regulation methods were used more frequently in cases whose parents reported mental illness and physical violence in the family environment and between parents (p<.05). It has been shown that perceived psychological abuse in the form of intimidation/humiliation, delinquency and rejection/isolation is negatively related to using functional (internal and external) emotion regulation methods, and positively related to using dysfunctional (internal and external) emotion regulation methods (p<.05). It has been shown that perceived psychological abuse in the type of refusal to give an emotional response is positively related to using functional (internal and external) emotion regulation methods and negatively related to using dysfunctional (internal and external) emotion regulation methods (p<.05). Keywords; Psychological abuse, emotional abuse, emotion regulation.
