Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to determine the position of patella in adult human beings. For this reason, the experimen tal group consisted of 50 adults that were active in several sportic branches, and the control group also consisted of 50 adults that had no sportive activity and no complaints on their knees* In order to be able to compare the results, two different methods of Blackburne and Peel(1977), and Insall and Salvati(197l) were followed. In addition, the insertion angle of the ligament patellae was measured* The ratio to the inclination between the platau of the tibia and the articulation face of the patellae and the patellar articulation face(A/B) was 0,8225 in the experimental group and 0.8753 in the control groups (P< 0.05). The results drawen from the control groups_.was similar to the previonsly reported ones. Since there has not been any such a study reported, our daha ob tained from the experimental group might be considered as original, While the A/B ratio in the right knees of females was 0.7393, the same ratio in the males was 0.8797(P <0.05) in the experimental group. The similar A:B differences between the fema- les(0.7521) and the males (0.8294) left knees was also reported (P 0.05) in the experimental groups. Although the A:B ratio in the right knees of the females was 0.762, the same ratio in the males was higher(0.8966) in the control groups(P 0.05). Similar higher ratios between the left knees of the females (0.8447) and the males (O.gigl) were also seen in the control group(P < 0,05). As indicated above, the A/B ratio seems to differ according to the sex in the adult humans. Without descriminating the sex, left and right knees the measure ments of insertion angle in the control and experi mental groups were 32,39 and 32.88( p> 0.05, respect iuely ). Again, these insertion angle results are the first to be reported.
