Abstract (EN)
Early childhood is a fundamental stage for an individual's personal, social, emotional, and spiritual development. Providing spiritual education during this period can assist children in developing awareness in areas such as emotional intelligence, empathy, values, establishing meaningful relationships, and respect for nature and the universe. Waldorf education, developed by Rudolf Steiner, emphasizes a holistic approach that supports the child's physical, emotional, and spiritual development. This research aims to evaluate the Waldorf approach from a perspective of spiritual education, with a focus on the early childhood period when the foundation for lifelong learning and development is laid. The study utilizes a qualitative research methodology, employing data collection methods such as document analysis, interviews, and observations. Interviews were conducted with nine early childhood educators who had completed Waldorf teacher training. A total of 50 hours of observation was conducted in a selected Waldorf kindergarten. The collected data was thematically analyzed to explore the spiritual dimensions within the Waldorf approach. The research findings demonstrate that Waldorf early childhood education provides a nurturing environment that supports children's spiritual development. The inclusion of storytelling, rituals, and daily routines in the educational process contributes to the development of a sense of wonder, respect, and connection with the world. The study also emphasizes the importance of inclusive spiritual education and respect for different beliefs and backgrounds, based on the Waldorf education approach. The results of the research offer recommendations that can be considered in future studies by educators, educational policy-making organizations, and researchers interested in holistic, spiritual, or religious education. The research also offers insights into the potential benefits of integrating spiritual elements within early childhood education.
