Evaluation of early term babies

Purpose: The aim of thisstudy is to assess health problems resulted early term deliveries, and to define the effect of such problems on neaonatal morbidity. Method: The study was done in Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine department of obstetrics and gynecology and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The duration of the study was 4 years (from March 2011 to March 2015). All data related pregnancy outcome and demographic characteristic were collected from hospital recoils was obstaned for this retrospective and cross-sectionally study. Initialed review board approval. Results: The 23% of deliveries was early term ones. The 21% of early term babies (n=1004) were followed in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The mother of these hospitalized babies had gestational diabetes 20,1% (n=42), premature rupture of membrane 11% (n=23) and pregnancy hypertension 10% (n=21). The majority of babies had respiratory problems (46%). The 48,8% of early term babies had feding disorder, 19,9% of had transient tachypnea, 19,9% of had hypoglycemia. Conclucion: The insidence of respiratory, feeding and metabolic (as hypoglycemia) problems is increased in early term disorder. Ceasarean delivery may increased the new born respiratory morbidity.
