Abstract (EN)

Video game industry has evolved from arcade saloon activities and grew into a professional sport and found a home in ballrooms and stadiums. Video games are becoming a part of most people's everyday lives. New terms such as esports, Competitive video games, professional gamers, esports athletes, metagame (also known as meta) have arisen as well as a need for a clearer view on this topic. As a player who formerly pursued a career in esports and kept close ties to esports ever since, an ethnographical and formal research of these terms seems worth investigating and giving another point of view for the future researchers which comes directly from the culture itself. In this research, these terms regarding esports will be given clear definitions with both necessary research and up-to-date examples. Keywords: Competitive Video Games, Esports, E-sports, Metagame, Professional Gaming
