The effects of the ethical climate on emotional labor: A study on the employees of 5-star accommodation facilities in Didim

Increasing competition conditions day by day, businesses are turning to new searches in order to both continue employment and gain a foothold. In this regard, the importance of human resources department for an enterprise is increasing. Emotional labor is an important concept as the service sector is a labor-intensive field of work. Therefore, it is a need to focus on what affects the emotional labor they spend on employment in the enterprise. It is thought that one of these effects may be the ethical climate issue. For this reason, the research aims to examine what effects the ethical climate has on emotional labor. In order to achieve this aim, a questionnaire consisting of ethical climate and emotional labor scales was applied to 187 people working in a 5-star accommodation business in the Didim district of Aydın province. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 program. According to the data of the research, a positive and significant relationship was established between ethical climate and emotional labor. A significant and positive relationship was obtained between ethical climate and emotional labor surface behavior dimension, but no significant relationship was found between ethical climate and emotional labor suppression behavior dimension.
