Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine whether there is a relation between irrational beliefs and positive perceptions of married individuals. Determination of whether positive perceptions and irrational beliefs differ according to the variables which are gender, age, child ownership status, marriage time and income rates is constituted the sub-purposes of the research. The sample of the research consists of participants aged 22 - 35 living in Istanbul. There were 246 participants (134 women, 112 men) and they were chosen by random sampling method. The data related with the irrational beliefs of the married individuals were gathered by "Irrational Romantic Relationship Beliefs Scale", data related with the positive perceptions were gathered by "Positive Perception Scale" and lastly the data related with the demographic variables were gathered by "Personal Information Form" designed by the researcher. It is examined that there is no significant differences in terms of both irrational beliefs and positive perception averages among males and females. When the results are examined according to ages of participants, it is not seen that the age variable is not a meaningful predictor. It is found that the difference between averages of positive perception scores of married individuals about income rates variable is significant. According to the income rates variable, it is determined that the positive perception scores of the participants in the lower income group were lower than those in the higher income group. It is seen that as the positive perception of the past scale of the positive perception sub-dimension increased the scores of irrational beliefs related to different thinking decreased. As the score of positive perception of past subscale is increased, the irrational beliefs about the gender differences decreased. As the score of positive perception of human nature is increased, the irrational beliefs about the gender differences decreased. Keywords: Irrational beliefs, positive perception, positive psychology
