Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine views of the participants on marital rape. For this purpose an assessment tool is developed in order to assess views of married individuals on marital rape. Hybrid design is used in the study. For the qualitative part of the study, interviews were held with ten participants. 643 married individuals took part in the quantitative part of the study. BEM Sex Role Inventory, Submissive Behavior Scale, Marital Rape Scale and Personal Information Form were used for the collection of data. During the analysis of quantitative data, the Independent Groups t-test and ANOVA were applied to examine whether the participants' views on marital rape vary depending on socio-demographic variables, gender roles and levels of submissive behaviors. The findings have revealed that the Marital Rape Scale is a reliable assessment tool. According to the qualitative findings of the study, the participants' views were categorized under marital sexuality and marital rape. Whereas, according to quantitative findings, the married individuals' views on marital rape showed a statistically significant variation depending on sex, age, educational level, the place where the individuals have spent most of their lives, salaried employment status, form of marriage, length of marriage, previous exposure to violence, and gender role. On the other hand, it was found out that the views of married individuals on marital rape did not show a statistically significant variation depending on satisfaction with sexual life, alcohol/drug abuse and level of submissive behavior.
