Abstract (EN)

In addition to marriage, sexual intercourse and social integration, it should also ensure mutual satisfaction between couples and satisfaction in the relationship. When this satisfaction is not achieved sufficiently, there are separations between spouses with harmony and relationship problems. Marriage according to while it is a source of happiness for some people, it causes negative consequences and unhappiness for some people. The difficulties of city life, the psychological and physical conditions of the spouses affect the married life and cause the divorce rates to increase. All this information raises the question of whether the three concepts (early maladaptive schemas, interpersonal schemas, and perceived parenting styles) originally put forward due to the interaction with the parent are intergenerational relationships. In this study, examining the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and perceived maternal parenting styles with dyadic marital adjustment constitutes the problem of the research. This research, unlike the studies conducted in the literature, aims to reveal descriptive results about how early schemas and parental attitudes perceived by individuals predict couple harmony in marriage. In the study, the Personal Information Form was created by the researcher to measure the demographic information of the participants, the Perceived Harmony Scale in Close Relationships developed by Rohner (2013). To measure early maladaptive schemas, the Young Schema Scale Short Form (Young, Klosko & Weishaar, 2003; adapted to Turkish by Soygüt, Karaosmanoğlu & Çakır, 2009) and to measure perceived parenting styles the Young Parenting Scale Mother Form were used. Research findings showed a positive relationship between early maladaptive schemas and perceived maternal parenting styles. However, among the early maladaptive schemas, only the Abandonment schema was negatively associated with marital dyadic adjustment, and all schemas except the Imperfection schema were positively associated with dyadic adjustment. All styles were found to have a positive relationship with marital adjustment, except for the Emotionally Deprived and Closed to Change/Suppressing Emotional styles, which are among the perceived maternal parenting styles.
