Abstract (EN)

In this study, synthetic domestic watsewater is treated with batch flowactivated sludge and upflow anaerobic filter reactor. The reactors are fed withsynthetic domestic wastewaters which have the value of COD (chemical oxygendemand) 500 mg/L, TKN (NH3 and organic nitrogen) 45 mg/L, NO3 2,5 mg/L, totalphosphorus 8,5 mg/L. During the study, the batch flow activated sludge and upflowanaerobic filter reactor are run simultaneously and supplied with the same syntheticdomestic watsewater. The batch flow activated sludge reactor is run under the average of MLVSS3500 mg/L, MLSS 5000 mg/L, hydraulic retention time (HRT) 24 hour, Solidsresidence times (SRT) 20 days , F/M ratio 0,06 day-1, DO (dissolved oxygen) 3,6mg/L. The upflow anaerobic filter reactor is run under the average of MLSS 15000mg/L, HRT 12 hour and 350C constant temperature. These parameters are alwayschecked during the running. It is observed that, from the activated sludge %90 andfrom the upflow anaerobic filter reactor % 78 COD is removed. The comparison of nitrogen and phosphate values of the batch flow activatedsludge and upflow anaerobic filter reactors are calculated according to the inlet andoutlet concentration of; TKN, NH3, NO3, NO2 and total phosphorus. The batch flowactivated sludge reactor average removal rate: TKN % 91, total phosphorus %63.The upflow anaerobic filter reactor average removal rate for TKN % 12 but totalphosphorus increased % 20.In conculusion, upflow anaerobic filter reactor, nitrogen and phosphorusdischarge concentration is higher than batch flow activated sludge reactor. Thereforethe effluent can be reused in arid regions for irrigation, due to high nutrient content.
