Abstract (EN)

Vibrations caused by construction activities, highway and railway traffic can cause damage to nearby structures. As a result, research into vibration isolation has increased in recent years. Wave barriers of single and double trenches in case of open and in- filled are widely used to reduce unfavorable vibrations. Despite the large number of studies on the vibration isolation efficiency of double open trenches based on numerical methods, experimental evidence is scarce. As a result, full-scale field experiments were used to investigate the vibration isolation efficiency of double open trenches in this research. The effect of vibration frequency and wave barrier dimensions on screening effectiveness was investigated. First of all, a thorough site inspection was conducted to assess the site's physical and dynamic properties. Field vibration experiments were then conducted in the absence of any wave barriers to determine the site's attenuation characteristics. Then, in the case of double open trenches, a series of vibration experiments are repeated. In the frequency domain, the trenches' isolation performance was quantified. The current study found that vibration frequency, Rayleigh wavelength of the soil, and normalized trench depth all had a significant impact on the screening effectiveness of wave barriers. According to the results, to achieve appropriate isolation, the normalized depth of the barrier should have been at least 0.22. As a result, double open trenches may be considered for ground-borne vibration isolation.
