Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to examine the relationship between agency and psychological well-being with the mediation of perceived parental acceptance/rejection. The research sample consisted of 213 undergraduate students. Survey forms were asked to be filled out for the analysis of the research variables. "Demographic Information Form", "Turkish Version of Parental Acceptance/Rejection Questionnaire – Mother and Father Adult Form", "Psychological Well-being Questionnaire", and "Multi-Measure Agentic Personality Scale" were used. The findings of the study indicated that the means of agency and parental acceptance/rejection subscales as well as psychological well-being were significantly different in terms of demographic variables. Additionally, perceived parental acceptance/rejection was measured separately for perceived maternal and paternal acceptance/rejection. The correlation analyses also demonstrated that agency subscales and psychological well-being were positively correlated. However, perceived maternal and paternal acceptance/rejection were also correlated with agency subscales and psychological well-being. Based on the results in regression analyses among agency, psychological well-being, and parental acceptance/rejection, it was found that maternal warmth and undiffentiated maternal rejection were predictive for psychological well-being, whereas paternal undifferentiated rejection was predictive for psychological well being. Besides, agency purpose in life, self respect and self-monitoring subscales were also predictive for psychological well being. Maternal and paternal acceptance/rejection were not found as mediators in the relationship between agency and psychological well-being despite the presence of correlation among research variables independently. The results of the study is prominent in terms of providing statistical findings regarding the relationship among agency, psychological well-being as well as perceived parental acceptance/rejection. The presence of the relationship in the sample consisted of undergraduates was also considered as contributive in terms of providing information for further research and practices for psychosocial and psychopathological issues. Keywords: Agency, Parental Acceptance/Rejection, Psychological Well-being, Mediator Variable.
