Research on the root proliferation of different pistachio rootstocks

ABSTRACT RESEARCH ON THE ROOT PROIİFERATİON OF DİFFERENT PİSTACHİO ROOTSTOCKS GÖKÇEK, Özkan M. Sc. In Biology Spervisor: Assoc. Prof.Dr. Yusuf ZEYNALOV July 2003, 85 pages Gaziantep province takes place in South Eastern Anatolian region it is known as the origine of pistachio trees. Many different local and ancient varieties are grown in the area of 99.273 ha. Pistachio rootstocks, P. vera, P.khinjuk, P.atlantica, P.terebinthus, P.mutica and P. palaestina were used in this study and they were investigated according to their qualitative and quantitative properties. After stratifying the seeds at 4° C 40 or 60 days periods, they have been planted in plastic tubes. The lenght of the roots were measured as a total of 6 times, in rapid growing period 10 days intervals 3 times, growth slowing period 20 days intervals 2 times and growth stopping period 1 times. Second year species have been taken to Botanic Garden and at the end of the vegetation period development of species have been measured 5 plants have been used for measurement in one species. The aim of the study is the find differences of species by measuring top root, root weight and stem diameters. It is very important to find the best rootstocks because of effects on plant growing and yield. According to the results obtained, P. terebinthus can be used as the mature for it has been seen to be better in the development of stake root in the arid earth that doesn't have the possibility of watering. It is also suitable to use P. vera as the mature for it comes into view due to the number of side root, trunk size and length. With the condition of using on appropriate watering technigue.
