Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of endodontic treatment is to achieve a successful outcome by filling the root canals with biocompatible materials. However, some cases may still result in failure. The aim of this study was to investigate the pH levels and calcium ion release of contemporary bioceramic based sealers used in teeth with artificial resorptive defects. Ninety extracted single rooted human maxillary incisor teeth were used. The teeth were divided into 6 groups each containing 15 teeth. The root canals were filled with cold lateral compaction using AH Plus, TotalFill BC Sealer, Gutta-Flow Bioseal, Endosequence BC sealer and BioRoot RCS as sealers. The control group was left empty by irrigation with saline solution only. The experimental and control teeth were placed in an incubator at 37 degrees to simulate the oral environment and clinical conditions. The pH values and calcium ion release were measured at the end of 1st day, 1st week, 2nd week and 1st month using a pH meter and atomic absorption spectrometer. At the end of the 1st month, the samples in the groups were immersed in acrylic blocks exposing only a portion of 5 mm and the fracture resistance was measured by mounting the specimens on the Instron device. Statistical analysis was performed using the NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 Statistical Software (Utah, USA) package program. It was determined that Endosequence BC Sealer was statistically significantly higher than other groups in terms of pH change and calcium ion release at all time intervals. The AH Plus group was statistically significant at the end of the 1st month in terms of fracture resistance compared to the other groups. Key words: root resorption, bioceramic root sealer, pH, calcium ion release, root fracture
