Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, the characterization of the usability of boron-based flame retardant fireproofing material in PVC mixtures with different areas of use was investigated. For this purpose, boron-based fireproofing material was physically added to the mixture obtained from PVC and produced industrially in the production of mats at different rates. The PVC mixture to be used in floor coverings was prepared with the help of a mixer, boron-based fireproofing material was added at different amounts and the mixtures were turned into strips in a twin-screw extruder. In addition to the prepared strips, the mixture was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran solution and boron-based material was added at the same rates and THF was evaporated to obtain PVC films. The characterization of the obtained samples was carried out with FT-IR, TGA, LOI, SEM-EDX and tensile-rupture strength analyses. According to the test results, an increase was observed in the % Elongation values as the amount of boron-based material was increased with the sample without boron addition in the tensile-rupture strength test. This situation showed that the flexibility of the sample also increased with the addition of boron-based material. According to the TGA data, it was observed that the addition of boron significantly increased the thermal stability of the PVC mixture. While the T%5 value for the PVC mixture without boron addition was 213°C, this value increased to 256°C with the addition of 10% boron. This shows that boron makes PVC more resistant to high temperatures. In addition, boron addition increased the remaining char yield during thermal decomposition, which revealed that the material left more solid residue after thermal decomposition. In the LOI test results, it was seen that carbonization increased as the amount increased. The findings revealed that boron-based fireproofing material exhibits flame retardant properties and therefore can be considered as a potential additive material, especially in PVC mixtures with various application areas.
