Abstract (EN)

In the thesis study, the effects of using pure and mixed fuels in different combustion systems on combustion performance and emissions were investigated experimentally. Gasoline and triethyl borate (TEB) were used as pure fuel, and gasoline-TEB was used as blended fuel. The effects of the use of air and ozone as oxidizers were also investigated in the experiments. The experimental part of the study; combustion tests of fuels in droplet size, combustion tests of fuels in the channel, Meker-Fisher burner and combustion tests in burners with different properties manufactured. In the droplet experiments part of the study; The analysis of atomization behaviors in droplet size for pure and mixed fuels; time-dependent droplet temperature change, ignition delay, extinction time, droplet diameter change, and determination of the combustion behavior of fuels were carried out. In droplet burning experiments; were carried out with 0%TEB, 20%TEB, 40%TEB, 60%TEB, 80%TEB and 100%TEB for TEB's percent mixing ratios by mass, and the behavior of the fuels in droplet size was investigated. In the channel flow combustion experiments part of the tests; flame propagation, flame chemiluminescence and burning rates were observed along the channel flow for pure and mixed fuels. In the channel flow combustion experiments, the combustion behavior of the channel flow length for 0%TEB and 5%TEB fuels has been compared. Combustion behavior, flame temperatures and emission formations were investigated for 0%TEB, 5%TEB, 15%TEB, 25%TEB fuel mixtures in burner experiments. For the burner experiments; CORET-1, CORET-2, CORET-3, CORET-4 burners were manufactured and their combustion performances were compared in detail with the Meker-Fisher burner. In the experimental study, the effects of air and ozone usage as oxidizer, the number of oxidizer inlets, fuel delivery at different flow rates, and the effects of burner diameter changes on combustion performance and emissions were investigated experimentally within the scope of the thesis. As a general result, it has been observed that the use of pure TEB and TEB-gasoline mixture in combustion systems, compared to gasoline, soars the combustion performance parameters and reduces emissions. The results and observations obtained in all combustion test setups have been compared and interpreted in detail for the fuels studied.
