Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, technology-intensive goods in foreign trade of countries are more than in the past. Increasing the capacity of a country to export technology-intensive goods ensures that its economy is more competitive. For this reason, countries should give importance to the export of technology intensive goods. Technology can be considered as an input in the economy and positively affects the technological development in the expansion of the economy. Information is at the forefront in the development of technology. Within the framework of knowledge economy, research and development activities inevitably increase the export of technology intensive goods in the knowledge economy dimension. In order to get Turkey's sustainable export performance and its place in the world rankings, it should be investigated on a sectoral basis of technology-intensive goods. In line with this study, Turkey's technology-intensive exports of goods to the national income, the effect of exchange rate and crisis dummy variables were examined. The theories of foreign trade are handled with a general framework and the role of technology intensive goods in the knowledge economy is emphasized. After the literature review, the studies on the trade of technology-intensive goods were highlighted. In the analysis of the study, the EU's and Turkey's national income and the real exchange rate and crisis dummy variable effect on exports of technology-intensive goods were investigated. In the econometric analysis, the quarterly data covering the periods 2003: I - 2017: IV were used, and the traditional and structural breakdown unit root tests and the structural fracture cointegration test were performed. Exports of 26 sectors, which are classified according to technology intensity, were estimated by the Fully Modified Least Squares Method and the results obtained were interpreted. According to the results obtained from the analysis, the effect of real exchange rate and GDP on exports gives different results for each sector. Therefore, it is not possible to make generalizations for the sectors included in the analysis.
