Abstract (EN)

İntroduction And Aim: This study is for 1 day, 7 days and 28 days; aimed to compare the water absorption and solubility of 1 GCIS (FUJI 1), 1 RMCIS (FUJI PLUS), 1 conventional resin cement (PANAVIA V5) and 1 self-adhesive resin cement (PANAVIA SA CEMENT UNIVERSAL) stored in distilled water, lactic acid and propionic acid storage media. Materials and Methods: A total of 216 samples, 54 from each cement, were prepared. 54 samples in each group were divided into 3 different groups based on the incubation times of the samples (1st day, 7th day, and 28th day) and subgroups of 18 samples were obtained. Each subgroup was further divided into three subgroups to calculate water absorption and solubility values in distilled water, lactic acid and propionic acid environments. (n=6) Samples were prepared by placing each material in 2 mm thick, 10 mm diameter polyethylene molds, taking into account the recommendations of the manufacturer. Water absorption and solubility values were measured by weighing the samples before and after dipping and drying. SEM (JEOL 5500/OXFORD Inca-X Scanning Electron Microscope) in Mustafa Kemal University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Research Laboratory was used for the surface analysis of the samples. Results: Among the cement groups, the highest water absorption and solubility were observed in Fuji 1. The water absorption and solubility value of Fuji Plus was found less than Fuji 1 and higher than resin cements. Fuji 1 and Fuji Plus cement showed the highest water absorption in distilled water and the highest solubility in lactic acid medium, and these values increased from the 1st day to the 28th day. Panavia V5 and Panavia SA Cement Universal cements exhibited greater water absorption in acid environments and greater solubility in lactic acid environments. In the SEM examinations of the cements, the highest degradation was observed in Fuji 1 and the least degradation was observed in Panavia SA Cement Universal. The deterioration on the surfaces of the cements was observed the most in the lactic acid environment and increased from the 1st day to the 28th day. Conclusions: In this study, resin cements were found to be more resistant to water absorption and solubility than GCIS and RMCIS. Materials with higher filler content and more hydrophobic, such as Panavia SA Cement Universal resin cements, showed the least water absorption and solubility. Due to their lower absorption and solubility, this type of resin-based luting cements is recommended for clinical use. Keywords: Pediatric dentistry, luting cement, water absorption, solubility.
