The effects of drought and ultraviolet stress on growth and antioxidant enzyme in siyez wheat (Triticum monococcum L.)seedling

In this study, on wheat (Triticum monococcum L. cv. Siyez) seedlings; drought (K), ultraviolet C and drought + ultraviolet C applications, seedling growth, shoot length, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, chlorophyll–a (kl-a) amount, chlorophyll b (kl-b) amount, total chlorophyll (chlorophyll) a+b) amount, chlorophyll a/b amount, catalase enzyme activity (CAT) amounts were examined. In our study, it was determined that ultraviolet stress and drought stress caused a significant decrease in shoot length, shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight in Siyez wheat, which is an ancestral wheat variety. Drought and ultraviolet treatments in Siyez wheat seedlings resulted in a significant decrease in the amount of chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and chlorophyll (a+b) in wheat seedlings. Although there was an increase in CAT activity with drought and UV applications, a decrease was detected on CAT enzyme activity in K+UV application compared to control. In this case, it is thought that the decrease in CAT activity in K+ UV application can be regulated by the increase in other antioxidant enzymes.
