Examination of experimental studies on some student-centered methots and techniques in science education: A meta-analysis study

The aim of this research is to calculate the overall effect size with a meta-analysis of studies investigating the effects of some student-centered methods and techniques on academic achievement, attitude and retention. The studies included in the meta-analys is include master's and doctoral theses conducted in Turkey between the years 2005-2022. In addition, academic achievement, attitude and permanence levels; years, type of publication, grade level, provinces where the studies were conducted, subject area, research design, research duration and methods/techniquesused in the study. By examining the studies in this field, 242 studies for academic success, 114 for attitude and 55 studies for permanence were included in the meta-analysis, which met the determined criteria. Transaction effectiveness meta-analysis was used in the study. The data obtained were calculated according to Hedges's g. CMA V.3 and Excel.2010 programs were used in the analysis. As a result of the research, the effect size of some student-centered methods and techniques for academic success was 0.962, the effect size on attitude was 0.551 and the effect size on permanence level was 1.158. According to these results; it was determined that academic achievement was significant and large, attitude was significant and moderate, permanence was significant and had a large effect size.
