Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT INVESTIGATION OF RHEOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF BITUMEN MODIFIED BY PHENOLIC RESIN ÇİFTÇİOĞLU, Polen Ms in Civil Eng. Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Perviz AHMEDZADE December 2019, 126 pages Pavement design, which is one of the most important areas of interest in highway engineering, is becoming more important with increasing highway transport. This encouraged highway engineers to design flexible pavements with better properties both in terms of stability and performance. As a result of the studies, it has become necessary to modify the bitumen with different materials in order to reduce the deterioration of the flexible pavement and increase the performance of the pavement. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect of phenolic resin addition on the physical and rheological properties of bitumen. In this respect, B1 and B2 penetration grade bitumen was modified with 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% phenolic resin and a total of 12 bitumen binders were prepared together with pure bitumen. Softening point, penetration, rolling thin film oven (RTFO), rotational viscosity (RV), dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), pressure aging vessel (PAV)and multiple shear creep recovery test (MSCR), were applied on the prepared bituminous binders. As a result of the experiments, physical properties of bituminous binders such as hardening, aging and viscosity were investigated. Then high temperature performance grade of the binders was determined. Keywords: Phenolic resin, bitumen, rheology, performance grade of bitumen, thermoset
