Abstract (EN)

In this study, petrogrpaphic, chemical and mineralogical analyses of five clay samples and a ceramic sample which were obtained from archeological excavation in Tlos Antique City. Clay deposit which is suitable for ceramic production in this region determined and analyzed as mineralogical and chemical. Frain size of Tlos ceramics was determined and representative ceramics were prepared. These ceramics were fired at 900, 950 and 1000 celcius degrees and studied petrographically. According to petrographical studies of Tlos Antique City's ceramic is fine grain. Ceramics matrix is sandy clay which has quartz and rock fragments (sandstone and limestone). Carbonation is observed in sandstone fragments. According to chemical analyses these ceramics have rich values of calciumoxide. The ceramics which were fired at different temperatures are compared to Tlos ceramic and it is observed that; the most similar one is sample B4 which was fired at 950 celcius degrees. As a result of polarized microscope examination; the matrix of ceramic is observed as a sandy clay. The ingredients of matrix are clay pellets, rock fragments (sandstone and limestone) and fragments of quartz. The sample B4 which were taken from Balaman area, shows similarities with typical Tlos ceramic.
