Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine trunk mobility, trunk muscle endurance, trunk muscle strength, static balance and quality of life in individuals with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) after Vertebral Body Tethering without Fusion (VBT) and Fusion Surgery. A period of 3 months to 3 years passed after the surgery for individuals between the ages of 11-18 who were diagnosed with AIS by the same surgeon; 20 individuals who had fusion surgery and 20 individuals who had VBT surgery were included. 77.5% of the individuals are women and 22.5% are men. Flexibility assessments of the individuals were made with a tape measure, range of motion using a universal goniometer (360°), trunk extensor-flexor muscle endurance using the Biering-Sorenson - Kraus Weber test, and postural oscillations with a single standing test and quality of life Scoliosis Research Society-22 revised (SRS-22r) scale and Short Form-36 (SF-36) scale were used. Lumbal region range of motion and flexibility, trunk extensor and flexor muscle endurance, trunk muscle strength, physical component score results of SF-36 were significantly higher in individuals who had VBT surgery with AIS than those who had fusion surgery with AIS. It has been determined that trunk rotation, lumbar region extension, flexion, lateral flexion range of motion are less in individuals who have undergone fusion surgery with AIS compared to individuals who have undergone fusion surgery. It is thought that more comprehensive determinations can be made in studies to be carried out with the large participation of individuals who have undergone VBT and fusion surgery diagnosed with AIS. In conclusion, VBT surgery should be performed more frequently and preoperative evaluation is needed for VBT surgery and fusion surgery.
