Abstract (EN)

This study explores the epistemological journey of Ghazali, an important figure in İslâmic intellectual history, known for his contributions to religious sciences and philosophy. By examining Ghazali's rigorous critique of knowledge derived from sensory perception and rational thought, he explores the timeless question of whether absolute, precise knowledge is attainable. The research aims to illuminate Ghazali's systematic examination of these epistemic foundations and offer insights into his methods and results. The study is structured around clearly defined objectives, including an analysis of Ghazali's intellectual approach and the significance of his contributions to the broader discourse on knowledge in İslâmic thought. Using a comprehensive methodology that includes textual analysis of primary and secondary sources, he critically evaluates Ghazali's epistemological framework. The scope is set to focus on its core studies, particularly sensory and rational knowledge examinations, while acknowledging the limitations inherent in addressing such a vast intellectual heritage within the confines of a single study. The research provides a thematic overview that explains Ghazali's ideas in the context of both their historical setting and their enduring relevance to contemporary philosophical and theological debates. The findings reveal that Ghazali's search for certainty led him to the conclusion that true certainty, while there are limits to sensory and rational knowledge, is ultimately grounded in divine revelation. This conclusion examines the synthesis of reason and faith in Ghazali's thought, creating a nuanced understanding of the relationship between human cognition and spiritual insight. As a result, the understanding of knowledge has a very important place in Ghazali's thought. Ghazali pioneered the thinkers who came after him by bringing a different angle to the process of obtaining reliable information. Ghazali aimed to establish his belief and thought system on reliable and solid knowledge.
