A research on handwriting graduation thesis of Gazi Institute of Education painting and craft department (1933-1978)

This study has been prepared to evaluate hand-written graduation theses that were submitted to the Gazi Institute of Education Painting and Craft Branch (GIEP-C) between the years 1933 and 1978 and investigate their contribution to the art education.The graduation theses written in the period of 1933-1978 are available in Head of Department room of Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Fine Arts Teaching by GIEP-C students have been archived and enumerated according to Dewey Decimal Classification Method (DDCM). These theses which have been classified under fifteen different clusters are examined by multi-variable analysis technique in this dissertation.In this way, this dissertation aims to shed light on the period?s understanding of the art education by analyzing these theses that were otherwise bound to be forgotten. The acquired data have been evaluated within the boundaries of art education. Thereby, the art education profile belonging to those years has been compromised over these graduation theses. Description, content analyses, and comments of these theses are evaluated under the heading of qualitative research methods. These evaluations also utilized quantitative data. Those acquired data show that graduation theses can be a strong tool for measurement for educational attainment of fine art teaching students. The dissertation shows the need to incorporate graduation thesis into the art education curriculum in the current period as well. It also makes specific proposals as to the content and the form of these theses.In the process of writing this dissertation, Gazi Institute of Education Painting and Craft Branch Library (GIEP-CL) has been formed and presented for the use of the researchers.
