ABSTRACT IDENTIFICATION OF PEPPER VIRUSES BY DAS-ELISA ASSAYS IN GAZİANTEP SI?IRCI, Zeynep M.Sc. in Biology. Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet OZASLAN October 2002, 53 pages Pepper growing are affected negatively because of the diseases caused by pepper viruses, pepper viruses damage. In order to prevent this damage pepper viruses were identified by biological and serological assays. In the course of survey performed in the Gaziantep province of Nurdağı and islahiye, districts leaf mosaic and curling, vein clearing, chlorotic and necrotic spot, fruit and leaf deformations were detected on pepper plants. In order to identify the causal organism responsible of these symptoms, samples were collected during October in 2001. The samples were transferred to the laboratory and inoculated to indicator plants and tested against CMV (Cucumber Mosaic Virus), TMV (Tomato Mosaic Virus), PMMV (Pepper Mild Mottle Virus), TSWV (Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus) by ELİSA. Out of 81 samples, 33 were found to be infected with one virus or more. As a result of this study, TMV, CMV were identified by serological methods.
