Abstract (EN)

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), is carbohydrate and glucose intolerance which is first recognized in pregnancy or develops during pregnancy. GDM prevalence differs in populations and has been reported as approximately 1-14Cellular mechanisms of insulin resistance during pregnancy are multifactorial. Adaptations of pancreas beta cells are impaired against insulin resistance in GDM. Pregnancy, itself is an important risk factor for insulin resistance. In addition to the known classical risk factors for GDM, recently some studies have reported factors resulting GDM development including ferritin, soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), high sensitive c-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and adiponectineSeventy high risk female patients for GDM, who administered Celal Bayar University Medical Faculty Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic, were included in the study. Mean age of patients were 30,05±0,55 years. Oral glucose test (OGTT) was performed with 50 grams of glucose according to American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria for GDM screening. Diagnosis was ascertained by applying OGTT with 100 grams of glucose to the patients having first hour serum glucose level over than 140mg/dl and 35 patients were diagnosed with GDM. The remaining 35 patients without GDM formed the control group. Mean age of the patients which were diagnosed with GDM were higher than control group and this result was found statistically significant (p<0.03). The familial history of diabetes in GDM group was higher (p<0.006) than control group and this result was found statistically significant. BMI and subcutaneous adipose tissue distribution (triceps, subscapular and suprailiac) in GDM group were higher than control group, and these results were statistically significant (VKİ p<0.001 and triceps p<0.001, subscapular p<0.001 and suprailiac p<0.005). Infant birth weights in GDM group were higher than control group and this result was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). GDM diagnosed patients were observed as having low social economical status and low education level with respect to control group and these results were found to be statistically significant (p<0.027 and p<0.015) . In our study, serum hemoglobin, hematocrit and serum ferrum levels in GDM group were lower than control group (p<0.495, p<0.471, p<0.281), serum ferrum binding capacity levels in GDM group were higher than control group (p<0.169), but these results were not statistically significant. Serum ferritin, serum adiponectine levels in the patients which were diagnosed with GDM were low with respect to control group, no statistical difference was found between the two groups. (p<0.824 and p<0.196). Serum hsCRP serum soluble transferrin receptor levels in GDM group were higher than control group and these results were not statistically significant. (p<0.479 and p<0.566). We need more extensive studies related to these markers to perform GDM development.
