"the effect of childbirth eduaction given according to Ex-PLISSIT model on fear of childbirth and self-efficacy in pregnant women

Aim: This study was conducted to analyze the effect of the childbirth education given according to the Ex-PLISSIT Model on the fear of childbirth and childbirth self-efficacy in pregnant women. Matherial and Method: This quasi-experimental study was carried out with 94 pregnant women (intervention: 47 pregnant women, control: 47 pregnant women) who had routine pregnancy follow-ups in two public hospitals. The research data were collected using Demographics Information Form, Obstetric Information Form, Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Scale Version A (W-DEQ A), General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), Short Form of the Childbirth of Self-Efficacy Inventory (CBSEI-C32), and Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Scale Version B (W-DEQ B). The intervention group was given childbirth education (12 hours) and a training booklet in groups and with their spouses. Pregnant women in the control group received the standard care and given training booklet. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the mean pre- and post-childbirth education W-DEQ A scores of the intervention group and mean scores of W-DEQ A pre-childbirth education and postnatal W-DEQ B scores. Besides, it was found that post-childbirth education and postnatal EE-16 mean scores were significant in themselves. It was observed that there was a significant difference between the groups between the pre-education/first interview and post-education/second interview mean W-DEQ A scores, the pre-education/first interview W-DEQ A and the postnatal/third interview mean W-DEQ B scores, and the post-education/second interview mean CBSEI-C32 scores. Conclusion: It was determined that the preparation for childbirth education given according to the Ex-PLISSIT Model reduces the fear of childbirth in the antenatal and postnatal periods and increases childbirth self-efficacy.
