Abstract (EN)
This study provides an in-depth examination of the position of women in Indian religions from past to present, focusing on their societal and religious contexts. The approaches of significant religions in the Indian subcontinent, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, towards women are evaluated in light of religious texts, rituals, and social practices. By analyzing the belief in goddesses and mythological female figures as sources of spiritual inspiration, the study aims to offer a fresh perspective on women's roles in Indian religions. Exploring the origins and transformation processes of women's leadership, familial responsibilities, and societal roles forms the core objective of this research. Within this framework, female figures in Indian religions emerge as powerful symbols carrying both divine and societal identities. The study identifies that Hinduism highlights attributes like strength, wisdom, devotion, and compassion through goddess worship, while religions like Jainism and Sikhism portray women's roles in more confined frameworks. Issues such as women's place in religious leadership, the caste system, marriage, motherhood, and the status of widows reveal how gender perceptions in Indian religions are shaped by societal norms. It is emphasized that while women's roles in rituals and worship are supported by mythological figures, these roles are often limited by social inequalities.
