Abstract (EN)

The rapid growth and densification of urban areas is increasing the demand for open green spaces and parks every day. Parks play a critical role in modern urban life by providing individuals with opportunities for relaxation, exercise, interaction with nature, and socialization. However, issues such as insufficient funding, maintenance challenges, unequal access, and physical deterioration limit the potential benefits offered by parks. The effective use of technology in addressing these problems presents a significant opportunity, highlighting the "smart parks" approach. Smart parks represent an innovative approach aimed at creating sustainable, eco-friendly, and user-oriented spaces by integrating technology with open areas. In this context, modern solutions such as energy efficiency, eco-friendly practices, interactive information systems, and sensor technology are intended to provide a higher quality experience for park users. In this study, the technologies that can be used to make parks smarter are examined comprehensively. In addition, a decision support tool consisting of 5 main criteria, 18 sub-criteria, and 53 indicators for measuring smart park potential, as well as a smart park performance calculator related to the implementation process of this tool, have been developed. As a case study, Sur Yapı Kent Park 1st Phase Landscape Project was selected, and the proposed decision support tool was applied to measure this park's smart park potential. Furthermore, the recommendations provided by this decision support tool and the developed Smart Park Performance Calculator have been made accessible for use by municipalities, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders.
