Abstract (EN)
Development and interchange in every aspect of life also effects people?s living spaces. Such environments where work, rest, health and education activities are performed should carry the features which should meet people?s demands. Sheltering comes first among the other life necessities. In the past, shelters were built as reedy cottages plastered by mud, later on advanced to a firm and different architecture by firing the clay. Building steady, economic and healthy living environments resulted in people having better quality in life.In this thesis, use of materials produced by red clay in traditional Turkish architecture is analysed under three phases which are Seljuk, Ottoman and at present. In traditional Turkish architecture fired red clay was used in producing glazed or plain bricks, tiles, chimneys as well as resonance purposes. Until today Turkish architectural structures have been developed by searching and finding answers to demands of people and ornamentation had a considerable progress at this process.Contemporary life conditions and rapidly growing technology play a big role in the formation of enviroments. Designs of new architectural and industrial products are created by influence of traditional design methods and nowadays product designs are either interchanged or developed by this influence. In this context while creating new designs with fired red clay, production and implementation types of traditional Turkish architecture have also been analysed. In latest designs, the pottery clays from Gokeyup, Karacasu and Akcaova regions have been practised and several tests, priming and glazing experiments are applied on mentioned clays.
