Abstract (EN)
The new power systems, which will not be more expensive than diesel engines, which have smaller volume and will not cause pollution are searched because of increasing power requirements on board and global warming. As a result of this, integrated electric ship systems, which are alternative for the conventional propulsion systems are examined. The first part of the thesis consists of studies focused on diesel engine and gas turbine applications in power systems, which have been prepared recently. The operating principle of gas turbine is delivered. Ships, which gas turbines used for electric generation are observed. The question that if gas turbine could be used instead of diesel engine for electric generation is asked since diesel engine causes air pollution and gives environmental disease, has much volume, vibration and noise. Capital costs, O&M costs and fuel consumptions are calculated separately on 2,5; 5; 10; 20 and 40 MW power levels for diesel generator and gas turbine generator. Cost for kWh is calculated and the comparisons are done. Keywords: Electric generation on ships, diesel generator, gas turbine, electric generation cost
