Determination of the relationship between attachment styles and life satisfaction, stress, anxiety and depression in young adults

Introduction: Correlating with mother has an important role in person's emotional and mental development in infancy which is a sensitive period. Especially in the relationships that will be established in adulthood period, the emotional and cognitive basis created by the attachment with the mother during childhood period has a great effect on person. Objective: This study is a cross-sectional and descriptive study conducted to determine the relationship between life satisfaction, stress levels, anxiety and depression levels at the attachment styles of individuals in young adulthood period Methods: The study was conducted on 549 young adult married or partner in Istanbul aged between 28-40. The data of the study were collected with "Personal Information Form", "Relationship Scales Survey", "Satisfaction with Life Scale", "Perceived Stress Scale", "Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale". Datas; Descriptive statistical analyzes such as number, percentage, mean and standard deviation in SPSS 22.0 program, in comparison of group, t test in independent groups. The U test of Mann Whitney, one-way analysis of variance in independent groups (advanced analysis Tukey test), The relationship between numerical independent variable and dependent variable scores was used Pearson correlation analysis, independent variables multiple regression analysis was used. Results: As a result of the research, it was found that the mean scores of the adults who participated in the study from the unregistered attachment sub-dimension (4.37) were highest, frightening attachment (3.60), obsessional attachment (3.52) and secure attachment (3.12). were close to each other. Conclusions and Recommendations: Attachment styles (especially frightening attachment styles); life satisfaction, perceived stress, anxiety and depression. The literature shows to us, the attachment that one built up with caregivers in childhood period affects his attachment style in adulthood period, anxiety and depression level, perceived stress level and coping mechanisms.
