Determination of the learning needs of patients who have an operation in the general surgery unit

ABSTRACT Elvan DEMİR, Determination of the Learning Needs of Patients who have an Operation in the General Surgery unit, Gaziantep, 2018 This research was conducted with the aim of determining the diseases of general surgery patients and the education requirements of the hospital. The study was performed with total of 120 patients, 44 women 66 men with age average 34.04+13.71 years. The data were collected using the patient identification features form and patient learning requirements scale (PLNS). The Cronbach alpha value was calculated as to be 0.97 according to the total points of the PLRS. It was determined that the average of the total points of PLNS was 151.38+30.22 and the points obtained from the lower scales may vary between 12.68+3.76 and 29.00+5.65. According to the age, marital status and location of the patients, the differences between the averages of points obtained from PLNS were not statistically significant. According to gender, education, work and income expenses, the differences between averages the total points from PLNS were statistically significant. It was surmised that the patients who constituted our group had the learning needs a little more than average Consequently, it was suggested that it would be useful to determine considering their individual features, the learning needs of the patients who will be applied to surgical procedures.
