In glioblastoma multiforme, concomitant and adjuvantemazolamid with enoxaparin for contribution of radiation therapy

Abstract (EN)
Introduction: Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common and agressive brain tumor. In these cases radiotherapy following optimal surgical intervention is the standart treatment modality. Despite multidisciplinary treatment approaches, survival rarely exceeds two years. Aim of this study is to find out the contribution of temozolamide and enoxaparine to radiotherapy at patients postoperatively diagnosed as glioblastoma multiforme. Materials and method: 33 patients diagnosed as glioblastoma multiforme postoperatively histopathologically, were seperated into two groups as chemotherapy and radiotherapy groups. All patients were exposed to 60 Gy/30 fraction external radiotherapy. 17 patients received radiotherapy alone, following surgical resection. Remaining 16 patients received 75 mg/m2/day Temozolamide and 40 mg. Enoxaparine simultaneously with radiotherapy, following surgical resection. In this group, 28 days following radiotherapy, chemotherapy of 5 days with doses of first cure 150 mg/m2/d and 200 mg/m2/d following days, were inducted. This regime was repeated every 28 days for 6 cycles of temozolamide. Results: Data of study were evaluated following the loss of last patient, at 16th February, 2009. Survival time without progression was 113.4 +/- 89.7 days for radiotherapy group, whereas 478.5 +/- 218.6 days for chemotherapy + radiotherapy group. Results were found to be statistically significant (p<0,001). Similarly, overall survival time was 165.7 +/- 129.1 and 560.12 +/- 220.0 respectively. Also these results were found to be statistically significant (p<0.001) Conclusion: Results of our study is concurrent with results of former reference studies. Contribution of temozolomide to radiotherapy at glioblastoma multiforme is obvious. Increase in survival period at chemotherpy group in our study was found to be higher than the increase of survival period of reference studies. This may be contributed to the effect of enoxaparine, but further studies are needed to document this effect. Keywords: Gliblastoma multiforme, Temozolamide, Enoxaparine
