The contribution of visual arts education to the improvement awareness level of I st grade students in primary school

The aim of this research is to identify the differences between the situations of students before and after taking the lesson of visual arts education and the rate of contribution to the improvement for environment awareness level of 1st grade students.The popilation of this study consists of 1st grade students who have taken the lesson of visual arts education in all primary schools in Ankara and the sample of it consists of 16 1st grade students who have taken the lesson of visual arts education in the Primary School of Gazi.In order to collect the data, the model of uncontrolled pre-test and post-test are used. It is aimed to display the students? level of environment awareness with this scale.At the end of the inventions of this research, the results of independent samples t-test according to gender and the results of points belong to pre-test and post-test are used. The data is analyzed by the pocket programme of SPSS 16.0 ( The Statistical Packet for the Social Sciences 16.0). Through the evaluation of the data the tables are used in this research.According to this research;1) Based on the evidences from the front test and last test, it is seen that there are prominent differences on the students? level of environment awareness.2) It is observed that there are positive increases on the attitudes of students who have taken the lesson of visual arts education toward the environment.3) The lesson of visual arts education can make individuals gain and cognizance in order to accept the protection of natural environment, respecting to aesthetics, nature and beauty. During the lesson of visual arts education it is observed that students have showed positive differences on the level of their environment awareness. It is seen some differences on their aspects of environment. In addition to this, it is obtained that their consciousness have increased about the protection of natural being on the environment, respect and passion for nature.4) From the results of front test and last test, it is obtained that students have not showed meaningful differences on their level of environment awareness and attitudes toward the environment according to their gender.
