Abstract (EN)
Intertextuality enables an analysis in terms of homogenous characteristics between two works of art. Further its textual sphere, it is related to an analysis between a literary and a visual narrative. This thesis aims to find out intertextual relationships between the novel The Invisible Man, written by H.G. Wells, and the American television series The Boys, directed Eric Kripke. In doing so, the eponymous protagonist of The Invisible Man and Translucent in The Boys are analyzed in terms of intertextuality and how the technique of mise-en abyme contributes to this intertextuality is also analyzed. Additionally, in this thesis, the employment of the technique of parody that is related to intertextuality is shown in the interrelated works The Invisible Man and The Boys. In doing so, the characters in The Boys Translucent and Black Noir are examined to find out how the two characters represent Invisible Man in a parodic sense. Furthermore, Bakhtinian carnavalesque that is related to intertextuality is also analyzed in terms of The Invisible Man and The Boys through the eponymous character Invisible Man and Soldier Boy respectively. Additionally, the similarities between Invisible Man and Homelander in The Boys can be analyzed in terms of intertextuality. In general, within the analysis that highlight the similarities between The Invisible Man and The Boys, it is demonstrated how implicit references between a written and a visual narrative can be rendered verbally in terms of intertextuality.
