Abstract (EN)
The indicator was used in divination for the first time. Later, as a concept, the sign took its place in the philosophy of language for the first time. In the 20th century, it was separated from the philosophy of language and started to be used as a separate science by Ferdinand Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce. It has become a branch of science whose areas of use are developing day by day. With the works of Renato De Fusko, it has become clear how it is used in the field of communication. With this study, semiotics began to stand out in space analysis. Umberto Eco focused on the use of semiotics in architecture and explained it in detail. In the field of archaeology, this relationship has been used by some archaeologists to interpret material culture. In this thesis study, the usage area of semiotics has been expanded and the relationship between semiotics in Ancient Monuments with Intended Remembrance Value, mentioned by Alois Rigel, has been examined. In this context, works whose history and commission are known are discussed. These works are respectively: Kalhu City and Northwest Palace, Ninurta Temple in the Assyrian Empire; Apadana Palace in the Persian Empire; Parthenon in Athens, Andron B in Labraunda; Pergamon Zeus Altar during the Hellenistic Period, Augustus' Mausoleum, Sundial, Ara Pacis Complex during the Roman Imperial Period and Domus Aurea built during the time of Emperor Nero. The structures and complexes presented above have been reconsidered within the framework of semiotics, based on the works of Vitruvius, Alois Rigel and Umberto Eco. As a result, it has been suggested that the relationship between Signifier and Signified, emphasized by Vitruvius, is similar to the relationship between signifier and signified, which is at the center of semiotics. In addition, the signs presented in Ancient Monuments are presented for the first time within the scope of Eco's denotation/connotation and functions scheme. Particularly, presenting selected ancient monuments and Eco's denotation/connotation and functions scheme in a table indicates that semiotics is an appropriate method to be used within the scope of ancient monuments.
