Determination of nutrient content of cotton produced in the Southeastern Anatolia Region

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in 2018 under Diyarbakır ecological conditions. 8 cotton varieties were used as materials in this study. The experiment was carried out in randomized block design with 3 replications. ADF, NDF, dry matter, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, protein and oil contents of leaf and seed were examined in the study. Free gossypol, myristic, palmitic, stearic, palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic fatty acids contents of seed samples were investigated in this study. All cotton varieties are recommended as feed raw materials in terms of NDF, calcium, potassium, crude protein properties in the leaf. ST-373 variety is recommended as feed raw materials in terms of ADF feature in leaf. BA-119, DP-396 and Lodos varieties are recommended as feed raw material in terms of raw protein in seed. GW-Teks variety is recommended as feed raw material in terms of total free gossypol in seed. There were recommended to food/oil sector in term of oil content of seed, BA-119, Carisma, Lodos and ST-468 cotton varieties, in term of myristic acid content, BA-119 and Gloria cotton varieties; myristic acid content, BA-119 and Gloria cotton varieties; in term of stearic, palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid content, ST-468. Since total free gossypol content in cotton seed was negatively correlated with leaf phosphorus content and palmitic acid content in seed, it was concluded that leaf phosphorus content and palmitic acid content in seed could be used as selection criteria in terms of free gossypol content in seed.
