Effect of use of safe surgery checklist on team communication :A meta-analysis study

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of the use of Safe Surgery Checklists on team communication using the meta-analysis method. In this meta-analysis study, Google Scholar, Medline, PubMed, National Thesis Center, ScienceDirect, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Library catalogs and databases were used. The years 2009-2023 were included in the scope of the research, and researches that were published in Turkish or English related to the research subject, postgraduate theses, and scientific articles published in national or international peer-reviewed journals and national books were included. While scanning the studies, the English words "Safe Surgery", "Safe Surgery Checklist", "Checklist", "Team Communication" and the Turkish words "Safe Surgery", "Safe Surgery Checklist", "Checklist", "Team Communication" were used. According to the last scan dated March 10, 2023, a total of 172 research results were obtained. Meta-analysis was performed with 5 studies that met our research criteria. 1 study from 2011, 1 study from 2012, 1 study from 2016 and 2 studies from 2020 were included. As a result of the meta-analysis of the 5 articles included in the analysis, it was determned that the studies had a homogeneous structure. As a result of the calculatons, the effect sizes were evaluated according to the fixed effects model of the distribution (p>0.05). Funnel plot, Rosenthal's Safe N method and Orwin's Safe N method were used to demonstrate that the meta-analysis study was reliable and valid and to determine publication bias. According to the results of the analysis, it was observed that surgical teams using Safe Surgery Checklists were 1.8 times more likely to have team communication than those who did not use them.
