Alien figure in the context of insecurity and search for truth

The late modern era is addressed by the notion of risk society, characterized by insecurity, uncertainty and fear. Risks in risk society create uncertainties; uncertainties cause insecurity and fear. In such an environment, individuals can look for certainty and truth. This quest allows for fictional forms that stand out with promises of certainty and truth, such as conspiracy theory and pseudo-science, to be held in society. Truth claims about the alien figure are also one of them. The alien figure is a science-fiction literature product and today it is subject to conspiracy theories and pseudo-scientific forms as a truth claim. The aim of this study is to show how the alien figure can be adopted as a truth in a social context. In this study, the internet news that the alien figure exists as a truth claim has been examined through content analysis and descriptive analysis. The result of the study suggests more specific aspects of the concept of risk society.
