Abstract (EN)

In III.Ahmed period which includes twenty seven years of Ottoman Architecture between 1703 and 1730 in small scale mosques, complex of buildings, libraries, madrasahs, primary schools, inns, sebils and a lot of fountains had been built. These buildings with their general features are happened again of classical period buildings. Differencies from other periods were showed in decoration of buildings and especially fountains. In period between 1718 and 1730, which is named Tulip Age, a change started to live and feel in Ottoman Architecture. In this period a lot of building activities, which generally included kiosks, mansions and palaces, were achived by Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damad İbrahim Pasha in Istanbul. Wood materials were preferred in these buildings to make structure in a short time. In 1718 when Passarowitz Agreement were signed, a period of long war with the West ended and a period of peace started in Ottoman Empire. In addition, social, culturel and technological developments in the West were curioused by Ottomans. xvi Therefore,Yirmisekiz Mehmed Çelebi, who was permanent ambassador of Ottoman Empire, were sent to France. In his travelogue he mentioned sociocultural life, technological developments, visiting palaces and gardens. He influenced to Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damad İbrahim Pasha and Sultan III.Ahmed a lot. Therefore, In Tulip Era desire of making structure such as palaces and gardens in the West occurred on the Sultan and his grand vizier. At the same period reign of Safavid which was East neighbor of Ottomans had magnificent architecturel and urbanistic practices. Sa'dâbâd Palace, that was built in this culturel, social and political situation, is accepted symbol building of Ottoman Architecture at Tulip Era. The Palace was built in Kağıthane Promenade which had been liked by Sultan and existed in the position of royal garden since 16th century. Sa'dâbâd Palace was converted by public promenade except for own garden. In other words, royal garden and public promenade were neighbor. In 18th century understanding of the promenade was existed by Sa'dâbâd Palace and landscaping so courtier, urban public with men and women were took place in the same space. The Palace and landscaping are attractive with its social dimension and also architecture. In this thesis, when Sa'dâbâd Palace was studied in terms of architecture, a document taking from Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive about the palace's first building time, was benefited. In addition, views on the palace of some architecture historians, historians and researchers were compared with this document. In this thesis subject of which east and west countries's palaces and gardens inspired by building Sa'dâbâd Palace was discussed with thoughts of some researchers, architecture historians and travelers, as well. Sa'dâbâd Palace in III.Ahmed Period had continued its existence up to 1730 when Patrona Halil Rebellion had started. Because of this situation Sa'dâbâd Palace damaged. It was repaired in I.Mahmud Period. Sa'dâbâd Palace was reconstructed in II.Mahmud and Abdülaziz Period and broke down in 1943. In this thesis situation of Sa'dâbâd Palace in III.Ahmed Period and its sociological impact were studied. Keywords: Sa'dâbâd Palace, Tulip Era, III.Ahmed, Ottomans at XVIII.century
